DIY Fruit Pouch
Project Creator: Brother Australia
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: EASY
Let’s talk summer! I’ve been road tripping so hard this summer and on every trip we take, I’m always wishing I had a little pouch for my essentials — I’m always carrying stuff for everyone else so my own things get scattered and tossed around. But no more! I put together this juicy little watermelon pouch so I can take it on all of my summer adventures!
- Brother Sewing Machine
- Measuring tape
- ScanNCut Machine (optional) with this you will need your standard mat and high tack fabric support sheet
- 50cm x 50cm hard fabric in green
- 50cm x 50cm pink fabric with polka dots
- Scraps of fabric in black
Let’s get started! Start by making patterns for 2 pieces of main bag/fruit rind at 23cm x 17cm, 1 front accent/fruit flesh piece at 20cm x 14cm, and 5 watermelon seed pieces at 4cm x 3cm. Trace and cut all your pieces out neatly. This is where if you have a ScanNCut Machine you can scan the template into the machine the after appplying the fabric support sheet and then the fabric onto the mat. Cut out each of the pieces easily.
Center your accent piece on your main bag piece, folding in the raw edges by 1cm. You can iron the edges of the front accent for a neater effect. Topstitch along the curve. You can do the topstitching with either a straight stitch or a zig zag stitch. With the straight stitch, the edges of the fabric may fray a bit over time but only up to your stitching line.
Position the watermelon seeds on the front of your accent piece. Pin the pieces in place and carefully sew them down by stitching around the edge.
Fold the top of your main bag pieces and sew in a 1cm seam each.
Almost done! Take your two outer bag pieces and put them right sides facing each other. Pin them together neatly. Sew around the curve with a 1cm seam allowance.
Turn the bag right side out and you’re done!
Optional: For closure of the bag, place a velcro dot on the inside top of the pouch; place the corresponding piece on the other side and make sure that the two align.
